The original band was formed as the South Ulster Concert Band in 1970 under the auspices of the Southern Education Library Board and provided an invaluable outlet for musicians of all ages and backgrounds, playing together at weekly rehearsals and performing regular concerts.
In its competing days, the SUCB won the Northern Ireland Bands Association Championship and held the coveted title of All Ireland Champions for three consecutive years.
The SUCB has always recognised its role in assisting the local community performing charity concerts or at schools alongside aspiring musicians, in churches or providing background music for public events.
Re-constituted in 2010 as the South Ulster Community Band, we currently have approximately 40 members who play a variety of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments.
