SOUTH ULSTER COMMUNITY BAND

The original band was formed as the South Ulster Concert Band in 1970 under the auspices of the Southern Education Library Board and provided an invaluable outlet for musicians of all ages and backgrounds, playing together at weekly rehearsals and performing regular concerts.

In its competing days, the SUCB won the Northern Ireland Bands Association Championship and held the coveted title of All Ireland Champions for three consecutive years.

The SUCB has always recognised its role in assisting the local community performing charity concerts or at schools alongside aspiring musicians, in churches or providing background music for public events.

Re-constituted in 2010 as the South Ulster Community Band, we currently have approximately 40 members who play a variety of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments.

   History of the Band

The Current Band

The current band continues to promote musicianship in a friendly and welcoming environment under the leadership of its musical director, Mr John Mitchell.

John became the musical director in 2010 and has been a longstanding member of the SUCB with vast experience playing in various concert bands, jazz bands and orchestral groups. The band adopted its new constitution in Sept 2010, a copy of which can be viewed as PDF by clicking here : SUCB constitution.

The SUCB has members of all ages, from all backgrounds, who enjoy playing a wide variety of music and performing public concerts.  Typically, the band performs approximately 10 times per year and welcomes bookings or requests for concerts.  If you would like the band to perform at your event please contact us.

The South Ulster Community Band is fully committed to safeguarding the well being of its participants. In working with young people our first priority is their welfare and we are committed to providing an environment that will allow participants to perform to the best of their ability, free from abuse, neglect, bullying and intimidation.  Our safeguarding policy can be viewed here.
